Contact is not connection
Every man enjoys laughing. Almost nobody laughs.
Not amused. Not a smile at a screen. Out loud, with another person, unplanned.
When did that last happen to you, and who was in the room?
It is rarely one problem. If you suspect yours is connected to more than this, start at contented.guide, where the twenty guides join up.
The test nobody can fake
James spent more than twenty years meeting and interviewing men in many countries. One thing held everywhere, across every culture and every income: every man enjoys laughing, and hardly any of them were laughing.
It is a good test precisely because it cannot be performed. You either did or you did not, and you know which.
This is not about having nobody
You have people. A partner, children, colleagues, friends of thirty years, family who ring. The contact happens. What does not happen is a conversation that stays with you afterwards.
That is a harder thing to name than being alone, because from the outside there is nothing missing. If you genuinely have nobody, that is a different subject and deserves more care than this page can give it.
A memory you have to explain was never shared
If you find yourself describing the day back to the man who was standing next to you, you were both present and neither of you was there.
Try it on twenty years of a marriage, or twenty years of colleagues. It is not a comfortable test and it is not a verdict on anybody. It is simply accurate.
Nobody has the time. Nobody.
Not one person in your life is sitting with a free afternoon deciding not to give it to you. James puts it bluntly: none of us is as central to anybody else's day as we assume.
Read that the freeing way, because that is the only way it is meant. Nobody is withholding from you. They are occupied. A man who is not being called is not being rejected.
This site does not say you do not matter, and it never will. The observation is about other people's time, not about your worth.
A blend, not one person
No single relationship can be relied on completely. Not a marriage, not a best friend, not a brother, not a child. Everybody is their own person with their own week, and nobody alive is built to carry another man's entire supply of company, honesty and understanding.
Several people, each giving something different, none of them asked to give everything. That is not lowering your expectations of anyone. It is putting the weight somewhere it can actually be held.
You are the one responsible for you
Which does not mean do it alone. Asking for help is part of being responsible for yourself, not a failure of it, and nothing on this site tells a man to harden up, keep quiet or wait to be noticed.
It means the arranging is yours. Nobody is coming to organise your life for you, not because they do not care, but because they have their own week.
What this site will not do
It gives no relationship advice. It will not tell you to leave anyone, contact anyone, forgive anyone or cut anyone off, and it will not diagnose a person in your life on your account of them. It does not know them. It will not tell you what your difficulty connecting means about you, and it sets no task, challenge, script or social-skills exercise.
If someone in your life frightens you, if you are worried about a child, or if you are somewhere darker than this page, please read the safety page first.
Keeping your thinking
Membership is one annual payment covering the whole network. It gives you a private console that keeps what you write, lets you return to it, and lets you export or delete everything whenever you choose. There is no monthly option and no advertising anywhere in the network.
Talk it through
The chat is an SI (super intelligence) guide, not James replying live and not a clinician. It will not diagnose you, take a side, or tell you what to say to anybody. It can help you be accurate about what happens in the rooms you are already in.
